Platform: Windows (All Versions)

Review by George Norman (Cybersecurity Editor)

on 24 Mar 2014

For regular folk, the word “python” refers to a species of snake. For developers, programmers, coders, and expert computer users, the word “python” refers to a programming language. Mind you, a widely used, high-level, cross-platform, open source programming language that has been around for more than two decades. The fact that it has been around for more than 20 years is proof enough that it is a properly good programming language.

As mentioned above, Python is cross-platform. This means it is available for multiple platforms. Several other platforms are supported on top of the popular Windows and Mac OS X platforms. It must also be mentioned here that all Python releases are open source. And pretty much all Python releases are GPL-compatible.

You will need a bit of help getting started with Python. The nice thing is that lots of documentation is available: manuals come bundled with Python for Windows, getting started guides are available online, tutorials and other resources are also available online. If you are a novice, you will find that getting started with Python is not difficult. And if you are a skilled developer, you will find that Python is a very useful programming language.

There are numerous reasons why you would want to get started with Python: it is a programming language with lots of history behind it; it’s not that hard to learn how to use Python; lots of documentation is available; Python source code and installers are available for download; Python is cross-platform and open source; you will be joining an enthusiastic community; Python can be used for small and large scale projects; and much more.

I wholeheartedly invite you to get started with the Python high-level and widely used programming language. Get Python and use it for your success story!

Pros

None that I could think of.
